Members of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of Dep. Brian Hurn, 56, of Lecanto, today during a well-being check after he did not report to work this morning. The cause of Dep. Hern’s death is not being released at this time, however, foul play is not suspected and citizens in the community should have no safety concerns. Detectives are actively investigating the cause of death.
Dep. Hurn joined the Sheriff’s Office in March, 2010, after completing a 25-year career as a paramedic and rescue diver at the Chicago Fire Department. In addition to being a judicial deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, he served as an on-call firefighter since June, 2012. Dep. Hurn received a Certificate of Commendation in 2012 for his life-saving efforts when a jury member collapsed at the courthouse.
The Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened by the loss of Dep. Hurn, who was a valued team member a highly respected deputy. The agency is focused on trying to help his family members and assist those in the agency who are impacted by this loss.
